First post!!!

Today was a very eventful day to say the least. Here's a rundown of today's interesting events:

Visited a church in Gallup called the Stronghold. They had a contemporary worship band, which was nice to see/hear. Then the youth pastor aka the senior pastor's daughter spoke for a little bit, asking for an offering. I felt she pushed waaaay too hard for it... give to the church your 10 percent, otherwise you're the devil! She didn't say it in those words but that's how I felt she came across. I liked the preacher though, he talked about the parable of the master who went away from home on business and left various amounts of money to 3 servants (Matt 25). The main thing that I took from it was that we should concern ourselves with doing what is right, rather than avoid doing what is wrong. I was a bit disappointed that he did not point out that the 3 servants gave back the entirety of their earnings to the master, and that they themselves did not hold on to the blessing that they received, but paid it back to the master. I'd still like to go again next Sunday, but am a bit cautious about how much more prosperity gospel I will see.

This evening, I went to the Haunted Canyon with some friends. It's an outdoor haunted "house" about an hour away from Gallup. It was kinda scary, but the scariest thing happened on the way. We were on a divided highway, and it was dark out already. My friend Morgan was driving, and as she was passing one car, a second car appeared directly in front of us, driving in our lane. Up until that point, the car headed toward us had its lights off. Morgan had to slam on the brakes, and then swerve in behind the car that she had been trying to pass, as the car that was driving in the wrong direction zoomed past us. Very scary indeed, but bravo to Morgan for keeping her cool and doing such a great maneuver as quickly as she did. After that experience, the haunted canyon did not seem very scary at all.
